The BoP Innovation Center, in collaboration with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), has identified five different business interventions for BoP ventures to achieve social impact, financial sustainability and, potentially, scale:
1. Interventions focusing on smallholders to improve quality and volume of production. For example, DADTCO, a social enterprise, develops mobile small-scale cassava processing units in Nigeria allowing first processing close to farms.
2. Commercial buyers to assure access to a supply of produce that meets specific volume.
3. Interventions focusing on BoP intermediaries between (smallholder) producers and consumers. For example, Hariyali Kisaan Bazaar is a rural retailer selling agri-inputs and consumer goods through its chain of centres, which also serve as a common platform for providers of financial services or health services.
4. Adaptation of existing products, services, processes to serve BoP consumers.
5. Innovative strategies that seek to create new markets at the BoP, through the introduction of new (specialized) products.

Monitoring #5 : social business is not on holidays !
No, the blog of danone.communities is not on holidays ! It is still on board to give you some ideas for reading online.
#1 Artis Mundi is a NGO whose objective is to support social businesses in the cultural sector. In July, Artis Mundi was presenting a report of Novica, a social business in Thailand.

#2 A new blog was born at HEC : Esp’r is the blog of a students association that help social entrepreneur. So, welcome and long life!
#3, At least, we propose you a little exercise : Apachita is a project led by two members of the lesocialbusiness.fr. follow its first steps as a social business !
Monitoring #4 : Looking for the words "social business" on the search engines !
This morning, I started my usual ritual of the monitoring online about the social business, danone.communities projects and other initiatives around the world. Of course, the big news this week is the Ashokas Chagemakers week but I've already talked about it last week.
However, my daily Google Alerts and my repetitive crawling have not worked this week ... or at least push me to take pen to tell you how it goes when you look for “social business” as a word, on Google Google.
The social business means, of course, an economic concept, but for some time (a few years , maybe 4 or 5 years) social business means, in English, the area in of social communication, or web 2.0, or collaborative communications, even in enterprises, and more openly like social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube…)
Monitoring #3 : Events FOR social business
We had the great joy to welcome Professor Yunus at “La Cantine Numérique”, May 23rd. The aim was to give voice to friends and contributors of social business. Prof. Yunus has been, as always, committed to affirmative action : "We are still at the beginning of social innovation. " The social business would be subject to follow!". Explanations in Silicon Maniacs.
Anyway, for now, become a social entrepreneur is a question that arises when one is young (it seems). Considering the interest around the Forum Convergences, Le Monde, tries to understand the reasons why a young becomes committed for social business.
Another topic, the General Meeting Community never ceases to leave memories. More than a month after this wonderful event that has welcomed more than 2,000 people, Fanny from Fanny's Party, shares his testimony and pretty pictures, which our favorite is just below.
Finally, even if here is no doubt that this is already noted in your diaries, the Ashoka Changemakers Week starts next week.
The team will be there. With you ?
